Hi all,
Our Geraldton Fishability Program is up and running for 2021. Obviously due to the dynamic nature of Covid restrictions scheduled activities may be cancelled or altered to follow government guidelines as required.
Our scheduled fishing days for 2021 will be the last Thursday of the month between 10am and 12pm each month at the Museum Boardwalk starting February 25nd. As always we can take larger and school group bookings outside of these dates if needed, depending on volunteer availability.
February to June dates are up on our website https://fishability.org.au for bookings
The fishing experience is free of charge to participants living with disabilities and support workers. Wheel chair participants are catered for and participants with restrictive hand, wrist, arm and shoulder movements which may preclude them from holding a fishing rod or operating a manual reel, can have the use of a motorised reel to permit easy line/catch recovery.
All fishing equipment and bait is supplied, as well as a personal flotation devices being available for participants and support workers if required.
May I also ask that sufficient support workers accompany participants, our volunteers are there to assist with fishing needs only.
With local support from Iluka Resources, Geraldton Sports, Stirling Centre and also this year Midwest Safety and Training have come on board to renew our volys First Aid training free of charge to ensure everyone’s experience is as safe as we can make it. Thanks to our sponsors and most importantly our dedicated volunteers, this service can continue in Geraldton.
What to bring
Participant/s and support workers should wear clothing in accord with forecast weather conditions. We strongly recommend broad brim hat, long sleeve shirt with collar at all times and warmer water proof clothing for winter as well as sunscreen, sun glasses and enclosed footwear suitable for either season.
Own water bottle, snacks and medications required.
Other
Activities commence at 10am and conclude at midday.

We require to have a contact person’s name and phone number/s (land line and/or mobile) in the event the Fishing Activity is cancelled due to a weather event or other an unforeseen circumstance, additionally the participants and support workers names are requested at the time of booking or at latest one week prior to the activity.
